Kasparas Aleknavičius graduated from medical school but chose not to become a doctor. As CEO and co-founder of a Kilo portfolio company, he helped build a product that makes everyday life better. His secret to success? An inner drive and a strong desire to achieve outstanding results. Kasparas shares his worldview and the dreams he’s turned into reality.
While building his career at the Kilo Group, Kasparas went through it all — experimenting, failing, learning, and working with different teams. Some projects took longer to realize, while others took off like rockets. One of those success stories is Bioma, a probiotic supplement brand led by Kasparas. Designed to support a healthy gut microbiome, Bioma products are now popular worldwide, especially in the United States — the central market his team focuses on.
A Startup CEO with a Medical Background
Health has always been central to Kasparas’ life. He studied medicine for six years, contributed to the development of Lithuania’s eHealth system, and later worked as a data analyst in a health insurance company. There, he gained experience in sales, pricing, and competition analysis — knowledge that now plays a crucial role in developing Bioma.
“After finishing medical school, I decided not to become a doctor — the hospital environment felt too heavy. My body was telling me it wasn’t the right place for me. But human physiology and its dynamics were, and still are, the most fascinating and engaging part of biomedical science for me. That’s my area of expertise, where I can dive deep and feel like a fish in water,” says Kasparas, who got his start working on products that help people manage chronic conditions.
He later moved into research, and nearly three years ago, he became a co-founder and brand CEO of Bioma.
What It Means to Be a Co-Founder
For Kasparas, being a co-founder means having a unique opportunity to build and grow a business more easily:
“The key is understanding why supply and demand appear in the market. Then you need to find ways to enter that market. Add your skills and ambition, and you already have a solid foundation to bring an idea to life. Gut microbiota and its interaction with our body are a very hot topic right now. There’s still so much unexplored, unknown. For me, it was clear that this subject would remain relevant and interesting for consumers and scientists for decades to come.”
Convincing investors of the idea’s value was also essential. Kasparas succeeded, and, as he says, that belief is one of the most critical factors in product development.
“Thanks to Kilo’s startup support ecosystem — Kiloverse — which covers operations and key business needs, we can focus on what matters most: creating and testing new products, and exploring sales channels and markets.”

He’s also inspired by the people working alongside him:
“Many strong leaders and experienced specialists have joined Kilo and Kiloverse. Working with such people gives you confidence and stability.”
Today, Kasparas leads a team of 20 people working on 12 different products, with ambitions to create many more.
Motivation Comes from Drive and the Will to Achieve More
Kasparas admits that leading a successful product can make it tempting to relax. But in business, comfort zones are dangerous:
“When things are going well, it’s easy to get complacent. But in business, every day you need to win over the hearts and minds of consumers — and the competition is huge. Hundreds of other businesses worldwide are trying to do the same thing. That’s why you need to act boldly and decisively, yet also wisely and strategically. You can play it safe and stay at the same level. Or you can take bold steps — make mistakes, learn, and ultimately reach your goals.”
What gets him out of bed, Kasparas says, is the drive and motivation to achieve more. Even when results are good, he wants them to be better. And when something doesn’t work, that’s when it gets most interesting — it becomes detective work, figuring out what, where, how, and why:
“There’s nothing more satisfying than finding the solution. I started in business out of a strong desire to achieve more and to live as well as others.”
A Healthy Body, a Clearer Mind
Kasparas believes that to succeed in a mentally demanding, dynamic role and to lead a team, you need to take care of yourself physically and emotionally. His routine includes daily exercise, balanced nutrition, and health products, including Bioma.
“I believe that a healthy body means a clearer mind and stronger decisions. And when we even have a gym in our office, there’s no excuse not to work out,” he says with a laugh.
